Prehistoric-Sounding Cosmic Voice

I was staying in an open-air Balinese style hut overlooking the ocean in Hawaii. One night, I was peacefully reading a book in bed when I heard a loud thunderous roar. Startled, I bolted upright, jumped out of bed, and peered into the night. The sound seemed to emanate from mere hundreds of yards away.

Pitch black outside, I couldn’t see a thing. My heart pounded and my mind raced with possible sources of what sounded like a prehistoric ferocious beast readied to attack. Except for feral pigs in the jungle, Hawaii didn’t have large wild animals. They only had rats, mongoose, small mule deer, and feral goats, cats and dogs. The sound was what I imagined a long-extinct ancient woolly mammoth would make. I wondered, “Had some gigantic otherworldly being broken through a portal from another dimension?”

After several long minutes passed, I tentatively relaxed, and climbed back into bed. Picking up my book, I continued to read. It wasn’t long before I again heard the bellowing roar. This time, it was deeper and louder, and seemed to be coming from the ocean directly in front of my hut. Shooting out of bed, I frantically picked up my flashlight and shone it toward the ocean. The darkness devoured the light. Feeling terrified, vulnerable and alone, my imagination ran wild in what had become deadly silence.

The next morning, I asked Michael, the caretaker residing at the opposite end of the complex, if he’d heard the loud roars during the night. He replied, “Yes, that whale was really talking to you!” Surprised, I exclaimed, “That was a whale?!”

As it turned out, a magnificent humpback had given birth overnight and at daylight was proudly displaying her calf for all to see. While in labor, she had connected to the cosmic birthing sound.

Note: When birthing an offspring, mothers-to-be sometimes express primal sounds that are otherworldly and come from deep within. Known as the cosmic birthing sound, when one connects with natural source of divine-inspired sound, she enters a trance-like state and enjoys a pain-free delivery. I am grateful to have experienced this phenomenon when I gave birth to my daughter.

Blessings,

Hannelore
