12 Ways to Cultivate Your Intuitive Skills

Following are twelve processes for cultivating your intuitive skills. I invite you to reflect on each one, and where it is suggested, I also invite you to record your reflections in a diary.

1. Practice mindfulness by pausing and being aware of all that is happening around and within you. Using your five physical senses, notice what you hear, see, touch, taste and smell. While letting go of the past and future, and without judgment, notice your thoughts, feelings and body sensations in that very moment. Breathe slowly and deeply as you simply be.

2. If being aware of and trusting your intuition is unfamiliar to you, allow for the possibility that intuition is real and that you can learn to connect with and cultivate it. Imagine ways that your intuition might help you discover your purpose and to live the life you are meant to live.

3. Start an intuition journal to record and track intuitive nudges, and make a note as to whether you listened to or ignored them. Notice and record any feelings and body sensations you may have just prior to or immediately after heeding or ignoring your intuition.

4. Connecting with nature will deepen your connection to your divine inner wisdom. Spend time in an outdoor setting.

  • While quietly sitting or standing, feel the earth beneath you, notice the elements in the sky above you, and the sensations of the movement and temperature of the air on your skin.

  • Close your eyes and listen to nature’s varied sounds. Notice the buzz of an insect, a trickle or lapping of water, the song of a bird, the sound of the wind or a nearby animal or rodent.

  •  Spend a few moments communing with a single blade of grass, a flower or plant. Note any sensations in your body as you notice its color, shape, scent and texture.

  •  Place your palms on the bark of a tree. For me, trees resemble “standing people” as they have much to convey through subtle vibrations and whispers.

  •  There is abundant activity and infinite wisdom in nature. Let your intuition guide you to the best place to focus, then allow for an intuitive message to come through.

  •  Be it while in nature, at home, or over your favorite beverage at a nearby café, write your inspirations and intuitions in your journal.

5. Notice when you have a sudden dislike or instant like for someone you meet. Record what you sense or feel in your journal, so that over time, you can notice how your intuition plays out.

6. Make a note of the times when you have a gut feeling about a current situation or upcoming event. It could be an intense feeling, an inner call to pay attention, a premonition, or a knowing about how you respond, act or react.

7. Notice when you receive an intuitive message from the quiet voice within. It might come in the form of whispers, thoughts or words.

Listen for the crux and nuances in the message as you determine if you’re being nudged or urged to do or not do something. Sometimes, a sudden knowing is meant to be shared as a nudge with a recipient other than yourself. Other times, it might be an urging to avoid a potentially hazardous circumstance or event.

8. Reflect on the times you ignored your first thought and did not act on something.

9. Jot down in your journal what the situation was at times when you acknowledged and trusted your intuitive voice. Ask yourself why the message you heard, thought or felt resonated as being a truth you should acknowledge.

10. Invite a friend to join you to practice cultivating your inner voice. For instance, you might take turns with one person thinking about or drawing an image or number, while the other sees if he/she can determine what it is.

Make an agreement with your friend that when the other comes into your thoughts, you will imagine where that person is at that moment and jot the time and details in your journal. You might include a description of what your friend is wearing, where they are, and what they are feeling or experiencing.

11. Incorporate cultivating your intuitiveness into your daily routine. For instance, while shopping, intuitively discern which checkout queue will move the quickest. When the phone rings, do your best to discern who it is before you answer or peek at your cell phone screen.

When devising ways to cultivate your intuitiveness, use your imagination and have fun! The possibilities are infinite.

12. By far, the most effective way to cultivate your intuitiveness is by participating in an Intuition Awareness Program. Doing so will accelerate your skills beyond measure as you practice with and learn from like-minded individuals.

Intuition is a Knowing

Without Knowing Why You Know.

It does not come from reasoning, logic or common sense.

Rather, it is the accessing of what might be called

collective subconscious

that exists and emanates from the divine realm.
